Introduction: Redneck Revolt (01:53)

FREE PREVIEW

Donald Trump’s presidency has brought extremists from both ends of the political spectrum into the open. This video follows a left wing group that says it has taken up arms to protect against Neo-Nazis.

Eve of White Nationalist Rally (02:27)

Reporter Stephanie March heads to Shelbyville, Tennessee, where a White Lives Matter rally is scheduled to take place. Many shops are closed and a local woman says no one is happy with out-of-town organizers.

Rally and Counter-Protest (03:25)

Police are as worried about the far left as the far right. Brandy Campbell is a member Redneck Revolt, a leftist group that describes its views as anti-fascist, anti-racist, and anti-capitalist. Matthew Heimbach wants to create a whites-only homeland in the U.S.

Spreading Hate (03:09)

Counter-protesters taunt the white nationalists. Heimbach’s goal is to normalize racism; he claims a propaganda victory. His group brawls with a mixed-race couple after the rally.

Armed Antifa Activists (04:16)

March heads to Durham, North Carolina to meet members of Redneck Revolt who say their goal is to be a broad community support group. They run food banks and provide first aid training, and are committed to armed self-defense.

Unite the Right Rally (04:32)

March discusses the event in August 2017. Redneck Revolt’s Dwayne Dixon compares the event to the torchlight rallies of Nazi Germany. He discusses his group’s decision to attend while armed with assault rifles.

Progressive Oasis (03:45)

Dixon describes Durham’s transformation from a tobacco town into a “liberal bubble” in the South. Local activists tear down a confederate monument in the days following the Unite the Right rally; they are further agitated by rumors of a Ku Klux Klan march.

Unusual Alliance (04:49)

Members of Redneck Revolt join Chance Allen, a member of American Pit Vipers, for target practice. Allen says he once hated Antifa but has now found common cause with Dixon and company.
