 Kaki King, the first female ever included on Rolling Stone’s list of “guitar gods,” performs her breakout single “Playing with Pink Noise” in this live-music presentation from TED2008. King combines virtuoso guitar work with an arresting percussive technique, dreamy lyrics, and layers of overdubs to create a shimmering cloud of sound. Her work on the soundtrack for Into the Wild was nominated for a Golden Globe, and Acoustic Guitar says that King’s “focused intensity summons up a kind of kinetic power and passion that can stop surprised, slack-jawed onlookers in their tracks.”
