Description

The beautiful acoustical environment of Enlow Recital Hall at Kean University is the setting for the final two episodes of the Fall in Love with Music series. In this musical education program, Maestro George Marriner Maull reviews musical elements covered in previous episodes. He applies these concepts to Movement 4 of Beethoven’s String Quartet Opus 18, No. 3 in D Major, performed by the Amphion String Quartet. Following a complete performance of the movement, quartet members and Maull explore Beethoven’s use of the ternary and sonata forms. The exposition is broken down into first and second themes, transition, and closing sections. Finally, Maestro Maull demonstrates Beethoven’s sense of humor through syncopation and sudden direction changes.
